At Riverkeeper Explorers Camp, campers will be faced with a myriad of challenges, on and off the water, to become an official member of the Riverkeeper Explorers Club by the end of the week! Campers will start the week obtaining information about our local waterway by delving into the river's history and through hands-on scientific exploration of it's water quality. They will then take the knowledge they've gained to develop the survival skills necessary to, in theory, survive along the South Fork River.
Educators will work with campers throughout the week to expand their understanding and assist in the development of basic survival skills that were once daily necessities by people along the river.
Campers can expect to learn:
Campers can also expect to spend a lot of time on the river kayaking throughout the week. Beginning on the flattest, slowest portion of the river, campers will work with our guides to gain experience and comfort on the water. At the end of the week they can expect to put all their newly acquired skills into action by paddling a more difficult portion of the river with our guides**.
