Hurricane Helene Cleanup Efforts

Restoring the communities and natural places we love.

Hurricane Helene showed us the utter devastation one storm can cause to property, ecosystems, and life. However, the aftermath of Helene has also brought out the best of humanity as strangers and neighbors come together to support one another and begin down the long road of restoration.

River cleanups are a necessary part of this process, which is why Catawba Riverkeeper is working diligently with partners throughout the region to assess areas impacted by the storm and create a comprehensive plan for restorative cleanups moving forward.

Cleanup information and registration links are posted below as they become available. Check in regularly for more opportunities to help restore the communities and natural places we love!

These cleanups are made possible by our collaboration with NC Wildlife Federation, Duke Energy, JMS Equipment, Lake Norman Marine Commission, Lake Wylie Marine Commission, Lake Wateree Association, Charlotte Water, Catawba Wateree Water Management Group, and HDR. Catawba Riverkeeper is working with other partners in the Northern and Southern regions of the river basin to plan future cleanups there once water levels lower and it is safe to go out on the water.

Donate to Hurricane Helene cleanup efforts.

Following the destruction that tropical storm Helene left across our Catawba-Wateree River Basin, Catawba Riverkeeper is committed to restoring our impacted areas across our 5,000 sq. mile Basin in the short and long term. This includes the 11 lakes within our Basin and all of the other natural waterways that feed into it. Your gift today will help us ensure we have the tools needed to complete this mission critical work in the short and long term.
